[11] Backstage Access: Behind-the-Scenes with Claire Wong & Huzir Sulaiman

Seize the opportunity for an exclusive yearlong behind-the-scenes look at the creative process of Joint Artistic Directors Claire Wong and Huzir Sulaiman through Checkpoint Theatre’s 2026 Season for 2 pax! Programme participants will get the rare opportunity to go behind the scenes and observe the directors at work in each production: in selected design meetings, workshops and rehearsals; and have conversations with Claire or Huzir about their craft. The programme includes a complimentary pair of tickets to the opening night of each production in our 2026 season, where you will enjoy the show from the best seats in the house.

Biography:
Claire Wong is the co-founder, Joint Artistic Director, and Producer of Checkpoint Theatre. She is also a director, producer, actress, writer and former lawyer. Claire has helmed landmark Singapore productions and toured her work to international arts festivals. Her recent theatrical credits include directing and co-producing Hard Mode (2024); The Fourth Trimester (2022), which won the Straits Times Life Theatre Awards 2023 for Production of the Year; and directing and acting in Recalling Mother: Her Lines, My Lines (2022), a commission of Esplanade – Theatres On the Bay. Claire graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from the National University of Singapore and a Master of Fine Arts from Columbia University.

Huzir Sulaiman is the co-founder and Joint Artistic Director of Checkpoint Theatre. A critically acclaimed and award-winning playwright, Huzir Sulaiman’s Collected Plays 1998-2012 was published in 2013. His play Displaced Persons’ Welcome Dinner was a commission of the 2019 Singapore International Festival of Arts. Huzir’s recent directing credits include Secondary: The Musical (2024), Session Zero (2023, 2021), Tender Submission (2023), Brown Boys Don’t Tell Jokes (2023), The Weight of Silk on Skin as part of Chamber Readings: Plays by Huzir Sulaiman (2022), Vulnerable (2021), Two Songs and a Story (with Joel Lim, 2020), Thick Beats for Good Girls (2018) and FRAGO (2017).
