Bestow the magic of theatre upon the next generation – donate theatremaker Adib Kosnan’s workshop, Devising for Young Adults, to children and youths from the Singapore Children’s Society!
This workshop will teach the youths how to devise for theatre and create their own original stories under the guidance of experienced theatre practitioner and Associate Artist Adib Kosnan. They will learn Checkpoint Theatre’s unique devising process, and experience how theatre is made while learning openness, cooperation, and teamwork.
Singapore Children’s Society shares:
“In 2026, Singapore Children’s Society will be embarking on a significant new chapter in our advocacy work. We are partnering with Checkpoint Theatre to support an empowering, youth-led alternative report that places storytelling, creativity, and lived experiences at its heart. Through a series of workshops and co-creation sessions, we will support a core group of young people as they explore insights from various consultations and translate them into meaningful, impactful expressions of the issues that matter to them—whether related to safety, wellbeing, education, mental health, or the digital world. The final report, in a format defined by the youths themselves, will be submitted to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child as an authentic reflection of their voices.
We warmly invite donors and friends of Checkpoint Theatre to support this meaningful initiative. Funds raised will go directly toward facilitating creative workshops, providing materials and logistical support, and ensuring that every young participant has a safe, encouraging, and inspiring environment to develop the alternative report. By contributing to this auction lot, you will be investing not only in the next generation of creatives, but also in the next generation of child rights advocates—young people who have something important to say, and who now have the platform and support to say it.”

Singapore Children’s Society:
Singapore Children’s Society was established in 1952 with a mission to protect and nurture children and youth of all races and religions. Over the past seven decades, they have grown into a trusted organisation serving thousands of children, young people, and families each year. Today, they operate ten service centres across the island, offering a wide range of programmes under four key categories: Vulnerable Children and Youth, Children and Youth Services, Family Services, and Research and Advocacy.
At the core of their work, they believe every child deserves to be heard, supported, and protected. This belief is grounded in the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC)—the most widely ratified human rights treaty in the world—that outlines the basic rights all children under the age of 18 should inherently enjoy. Singapore acceded to the UNCRC in 1995 and, as part of its responsibilities, submits a state report to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child every four to five years. These periodic reports describe the progress made in upholding and advancing children’s rights in Singapore.
Alongside the official state report, the UNCRC also values the inclusion of independent voices that provide a fuller, more diverse picture of children’s lived experiences. Civil society organisations and individuals— including children and young people themselves—are encouraged to submit alternative reports. These reports do not have to be formal or academic; they may take creative forms such as short films, artwork, spoken-word pieces, songs, photo essays, or video reels. By allowing young people to communicate in formats that feel authentic to them, the alternative reporting process offers a powerful opportunity for children and youth participation and expression—an essential aspect of the UNCRC.
