Touted as one of the emerging artists to look out for at Singapore Art Week 2025, Benedict Yu’s art “creates immersive experiences that help people reconnect with their inner selves” (F ZINE, Singapore).
In Reminiscence of Residue, water carries the memories of millennia, bearing witness to the passage of time, space, spirits, and souls. It reflects the shifting glow of the light, emerging from the depths of cold darkness and transforming into the warmth of love passed from one to another. Within its currents, water reveals pathways, leaving behind traces that guide the cosmic light forward, illuminating the way of harmony.
Gift yourself or a loved one a space for quiet gentle reflection with this beautiful limited edition piece.
Biography:
Benedict Yu is a Visceral Reality Artist, mixed reality educator, and affective reality researcher working at the intersection of art, technology, and spirituality. Based between Singapore, Taiwan, and the EU, he creates virtual sanctuaries and immersive spaces designed to foster communal healing and self-reflection, particularly for unseen and marginalized communities worldwide.
His practice explores the transformative potential of digital environments as spaces for spiritual introspection, collective storytelling, and emotional restoration. He draws from his Buddhist-Christian background and his interest in hauntology, spirituality, myth, and folklore, shaping an intimate creative discourse that overcomes bodily and spiritual contradictions. Through his transdisciplinary research, Yu continues to push the boundaries of mixed reality as a medium for healing, cultural preservation, and human connection.
Yu’s work has been exhibited internationally in cities including New York, London, Berlin, Barcelona, Tokyo, Kyoto, and Seoul. His works are held in major collections such as Mapletree Investments Singapore, Mediacorp Singapore, the Courtois Collection (Paris), GAW Capital (Hong Kong), and Panxing Construction Development (Taiwan). Notable projects includes spearheading a participatory VR project, Echoes of the Bay as part of Singapore Night Festival 2025, his invitation to exhibit at 29Rooms with VICE Media (alongside Billie Eilish and other major brands), Singapore’s largest indoor 29-meter mural commissioned by GR.iD Shopping Mall, the Rebirth installation with Pelago by Singapore Airlines, XR project with the New Art Museum Singapore to transform Yayoi Kusama’s works into mixed reality experience, and contributions to major cultural events such as Singapore Art Week, Berlin Art Week, Singapore Design Week, the Berlin Temple of the Body Rave Music Festival, and Passion Art Festival by People’s Association Singapore.
Yu’s contributions to the arts have been recognised with several awards, including the TCYH Millennium Trust by Mapletree Investments (2023) and the Berlin Kiez Film Festival Award (2024).
