Led by experienced Birth Doulas, Educators, and Yoga Teachers, MAIA House’s programme offers a holistic and supportive learning environment focused on physiology, movement, and mental wellness. Whether you’re a first-time parent or have been through childbirth before, MAIA House’s interactive modules cater to diverse needs, ensuring you’re prepared for pregnancy, labour and beyond.
There are four online modules that you can complete at your own pace.
These cover:
- Birthing body fundamentals: Explore the intricate dynamics of the birthing body and gain a deeper understanding of the physiological processes and adaptations that occur during labour and birth. We will also look at some of the outdated myths regarding labour progress, dilation and labour patterns.
- Pelvic balancing for an easeful birth: Discover why Pelvic Balancing is a key approach towards finding ease in labour and birth.
- Birth interventions and pain relief options: Gain insight into the full spectrum of birth supports and interventions available, including pain relief options, inductions and medical interventions. Understanding these choices empowers you to make informed decisions that align with your birth preferences.
- Birth mapping (getting your voices heard): We take a closer look at mentally preparing for the birth you want and advocating for yourself and your partner, as well as learning more about the possibilities available to you based on your preferred pathways.
Additionally, there is an in-person Spinning Babies® class led by the only certified Spinning Babies® Parent Educator in Singapore, Dewi Chen. Students will learn partner-assisted movements, positions and exercises to help bring comfort in pregnancy, unhinder labour and more ease in birth. This is a 3.5-hour class that takes place at MAIA House.
Finally, to support your learning throughout the programme, there will be two live engagements via Zoom. These live sessions are for us to check in with participants, clarify any queries about the modules and in-person classes. In these calls, we will also have interactive role-playing exercises and group discussions that encourage advocacy, collaboration and foster mutual support among participants.
If you are unable to join our calls, there is no need to worry, as every session will be recorded and uploaded onto your e-learning platform. Through these sessions, we hope to cultivate a supportive community of peers that we hope will continue on even after birth.
About MAIA House:
Your Birth, Your Baby, Your Way
MAIA House provides doula services as well as childbirth and postpartum preparation classes. A doula provides physical, emotional, and informational support to pregnant, birthing and postpartum families. MAIA House doulas have supported over 300 families with experiences ranging far and wide: hospital births, home births, water births, unmedicated births, births with pain relief, in-labour and elective caesarean births, VBACs, twin vaginal births, and breech vaginal births. Our postpartum doulas assist with infant feeding, lactation guidance, postpartum recovery, baby care, adjusting to life with a newborn and are often the first line of defence against postpartum mood disorders.
MAIA House is a gift for both families and birthworkers. It was born out of a doula’s love for her work and her partner’s love for her. Just like the title of “doula”, the word “maia” has Greek roots. It means “mother”, “nurse”, but another beautiful meaning is growth/greatness.
There is a popular saying that it takes a village to raise a baby. A more accurate version is that it takes a village to raise a mother. But a little-known truth is that a family should carefully choose who is in their village. We have started a careful curation for our clients. Our team and our selected partners are committed to providing evidence-based care tailored to you and your family’s needs. We see the many gaps families fall through in pregnancy, birth and postpartum ,and we seek to bridge those gaps through continuous support. It is still your journey to walk, but we will walk beside you.
